Kaleb Wrigh,t City Council - Ward 2 | City of Newton
City of Newton Zoning Board met March 11.
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
The Zoning Board met on March 11, 2025, at 6:00 PM in the City Council Room at Newton City Hall.
Roll call was taken.
Present: Ed Webb, Lanette Huddleston, Tom Clark, Maxine Calvert, Kenneth Belcher, John Stone, Ken Albrecht and Twyla Harvey.
Also present were Jared Wagner, Mylinh Gillespie and Gayle Glumac. Pledge of Allegiance was led by Maxine Calvert.
Minutes were read and approved.
Chairman Albrecht stated the Board Members were here to consider a request for an Area/Bulk Variance to permit the new construction of a duplex on 109 Goble Street. This would require changing the property from an SRI to an SR2. John Stone stated, if we approve this request, we might want to make all SR1s to include SR2s – multiple family residence. John also stated that “setbacks” would not be a problem for this request.
Jared Wagner stated that when he purchased this property there was a house on it and his intent was to remodel the house and sell it. However, when he assessed the house, he found that was not possible due to too many structural issues.
Mylinh Gillespie was present and stated she owns the adjacent property to the North. While she is happy to see something new being built, she has some concerns/questions. Her biggest concern was the additional traffic a duplex would cause. Jared didn’t see this as a big problem. The duplex would set East and West, and the future residents would enter the South side of said property. Jared also stated he would put up a fence if Mylinh desired a fence being put up.
Jared stated he plans to remove at least 1 tree and the storage building presently on the property.
Twyla Harvey made a motion to grant the variance and Lanette Huddleston seconded the motion. All Zoning Board Members voted to recommend the variance to the City Council.
Kenneth Belcher made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Tom Clark.
