HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital has introduced the SpiderCage Universal Exercise Unit in its Physical Therapy department. This equipment aims to enhance pediatric rehabilitation for children with developmental delays, injuries, and neurological conditions by improving balance, strength, and mobility in a safe environment.

The SpiderCage is a wire structure that utilizes a belt and bungee cords to support children during exercises. It is designed to help children achieve transitions such as moving from sitting to kneeling to standing independently, with bungee cords aiding in their support and balance. Tammy Probst, the Rehab and Wellness Director at St. Anthony’s, stated, “Using the SpiderCage, we can help children reach new milestones in their therapy journey.” She described it as a "game-changer for pediatric physical therapy."

The equipment was funded through donations to HSHS St. Anthony’s Foundation. Michael Wall, the Manager of Philanthropy, emphasized the importance of these contributions, saying, “Contributions from our donors play a pivotal role in bringing this and many other advanced technologies to the community.”

St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital also plans to open a Center for Pediatric Therapy in August 2025, which will house the SpiderCage and other therapeutic services, aiming to support both physical and emotional development in children.
