A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Jasper County IL Elections Division on February 5, 2025. The request, made by us at East Central Reporter, sought comprehensive details about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
We asked for a complete list of all individuals vying for office in the forthcoming electoral process. The information requested included each candidate's first, middle, and last names. Additionally, we sought information regarding the specific office each candidate is running for and its jurisdiction. The party affiliation of each candidate was also requested.
To ensure comprehensive coverage and facilitate direct communication with these public figures, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their physical address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to such public records is essential for our work. It allows us to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information to the community, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
