FOIA Request Sent to Lawrence County Il Elections Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Lawrence County Il Elections Division regarding details of all candidates running in the upcoming election on February 5, 2025. The request was made by us at East Central Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In our quest for transparency and accountability, we sought records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We requested this information preferably in an electronic format for easy dissemination to the public.

The specific details requested about each candidate include their first, middle, and last names. Additionally, we asked for the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. Party affiliation of each candidate was also included in our request.

To facilitate further correspondence with these candidates, we also requested their contact information. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a positive response from the Lawrence County Il Elections Division as we continue our commitment to provide comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs.
