Over the last two and a half months, the jury in former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan's corruption trial has been presented with wiretapped phone calls and secretly recorded video footage featuring the longtime Democratic leader. On Tuesday, however, they had the opportunity to observe Madigan in person as he took the stand in his own defense.

This move allowed jurors to witness Madigan's mannerisms and speech patterns firsthand. His attorney has accused federal authorities of deliberately misinterpreting these characteristics.

The proceedings continue as Madigan defends himself against charges related to his time as a prominent figure in Illinois politics.
