Dolton, Ill. (ECWd) – Dolton’s former Assistant Police Chief Lewis Lacey is no longer listed as a certified police officer in the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) officer certification database.
Lacey was indicted by a federal grand jury on nine counts related to bankruptcy fraud. After pleading not guilty, a Federal Judge ordered him to surrender all firearms, including his service firearm, and his Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card as a condition of bail.
Despite being prohibited from entering the building, Lacey returned to work the next day with Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard after previously threatening the police department with insubordination. Dolton police officers subsequently went to Lacey’s home to seize the firearms, including his police firearm.
Mayor Henyard stated she appointed Lacey as deputy police chief in a civilian capacity. However, the police department issued a Vote of No Confidence shortly thereafter.
The village notified ILETSB that Lacey was terminated by board vote in a public meeting. Approximately one week later, the ILETSB database indicated that Lewis Lacy was terminated from the Village of Dolton on August 14, 2024, and his certification as a law enforcement officer is now “inactive.” This status prevents him from acting as a law enforcement officer anywhere.
It remains unclear if Lacey is still driving the village’s unmarked police vehicle or if he has returned it to the village.
In June 2024, a lawsuit was filed alleging falsification of test scores for Sergeant and unlawful promotions to Sergeant.
