City of Tuscola City Council met July 22.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The regular meeting of the Tuscola City Council was called to order with Brace, Day, Hoey, Morris, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop and Mayor Kleiss in attendance. Mayor Kleiss led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mayor Kleiss went over the items on the consent agenda:

Minutes of the Previous Meeting: July 8, 2024

Financial report for June 2024

Payment of bills totaling $713,527.96 including

Final Pay request from Wohltman Construction for the fire station - $130,272.60 Change order for fire station - $14,460.00

Pay request from Wohltman Construction for the maintenance building - $61,524.85 Change order for maintenance building - $3,986.00.

Community Building lease with alcohol request from Charles Jones for a wedding reception September 14, 2024

Closure of part of West North Central Street on September 7, 2024, for the 'Tuscola's Got Talent' car show

Sale Street closure for Homecoming block party October 5, 2024

Hoey moved to approve the items on the consent agenda. Waldrop seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Morris, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop. Shoemaker moved to approve the consent agenda for July 22, 2024. Morris seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Morris, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop.

Mayor

Mayor Kleiss opened discussion on a tour of the new fire station. Administrator Hoel stated if all council would be there together it should be publicized as an actual meeting. Attorney Bequette stated if the public is invited to tour the new station and council happens to be there, he is not concerned about posting it as a meeting. If we say next week the council is going to tour the fire station, it should be posted. Chief Moody added his intention was to hold a public open house but he is not quite ready yet. Individual council members are welcome to contact Chief Moody and stop by for a tour on their own. More info on a public open house at a later date.

Mayor Kleiss asked for council action on the Family Fun Days agenda for August 31, 2024. Administrator Hoel went over various activities, events, services required, and street closures. Rund moved to approve the Family Fun Days agenda, as submitted for August 31, 2024. Morris seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Morris, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop.

In order to correct an ordinance incorrectly numbered, Slaughter moved to approve ordinance 2024-0-4, an ordinance setting forth the appropriations for the City of Tuscola for the fiscal year beginning May 1, 2024 and ending April 30, 2025. Waldrop seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Morris, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop.

The motion to adjourn was made by Slaughter and seconded by Shoemaker. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Morris, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter and Waldrop.
