City of Tuscola City Council met May 28.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order with Brace, Day, Hoey, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop and Mayor Kleiss in attendance. Morris was absent. Clerk Leamon was absent; Deputy Clerk Wasiloski filled in. Mayor Kleiss led the Pledge of Allegiance. 

Consent Agenda 

Mayor Kleiss went over the items on the consent agenda: 

  • Minutes of the May 13, 2024 meeting 
  • April 2024 Financial Report 
  • Payment of bills totaling $100,912.78 
  • Pay request: None 
  • Request to Conduct Fundraising: None 
  • Community Building lease request with alcohol: None 
  • Request for Street Closure on Part of Lakeshore Drive for Ironhorse HOA Block Party on June 8th 
Mayor

Mayor Kleiss offered Lisa Wasiloski condolences at the loss of her father and thanked her for a nice card. 

City Clerk - No Report 

City Treasurer 

Treasurer Long informed council of a health insurance letter she received on 5/28/2024 which raises the cost of the Health Alliance plan on proposed insurance with 3 days left in open enrollment. 

City Attorney - No Report 

City Administrator - No Report 

Contracts and Agreements 

  • Mayor Kleiss presented a maintenance engineering agreement to be performed by consulting Engineer James Crane for the annual chip and tar maintenance. Rund moved to approve Waldrop seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop. 
  • Mayor Kleiss presented a resolution for maintenance under the Illinois Highway Code. In the amount of $102,000 for annual chip and tar maintenance. Hoey moved to approve Brace seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop. 
  • Mayor Kleiss presented an updated amount from Municipal Equipment Corporation for the Medora GS12 Tank Mixer for the amount of $16,426. Rund moved to approve  Shoemaker seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop. 
Other 

  • Mayor Kleiss discussed the proposed revised location for the Family Traditions Saloon outdoor band and liquor sales to the fenced area instead of the parking lot on July 13th and August 10th. The band will stop at 10pm. Shoemaker moved to approve Brace seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop. VOTE NAY Hoey. With 6 YEA votes and one NAY vote, motion carried. 
  • Slaughter motioned to approve a revised list of the temporary summer hires including Jason Rennert as occasional pool manager. Waldrop seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop. Copy attached, making the revised temporary summer hires part of the minutes. 
  • Day motioned to approve 2 new library PT employees, Jennie Porter and Karsyn Lyons at $15 per hour. Slaughter seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop. 
  • Waldrop moved to approve Michelle Black as PT Tourism ambassador at $16.25 per hour. Brace seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop. 
  • Mayor Kleiss congratulated the TCHS boys and girls track teams on a fine showing at the State track meet. 
The motion to adjourn was made by Hoey and seconded by Slaughter. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop.
