State Representative Adam Niemerg recognized the second anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, stating, "there is still much work to do here in Illinois to protect innocent life." He made this statement in a June 24 Facebook post.
"Today is the 2nd Anniversary of the overturning of the Roe v. Wade decision," said Adam M Niemerg, State Representative for 102nd District (R), according to Facebook. "There is still much work to do here in Illinois to protect innocent life. Thank you to all who work to educate everyone on this important issue!"
In his Facebook post, Niemerg shared a link to an article from the Catholic News Agency. The article focused on a statement by Bishop Michael Burbidge of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities. According to Burbidge, "On June 24, 2024, we celebrate the second anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, ending the tragic reign of Roe v. Wade. It is a day for thanksgiving to God for answering our prayers and blessing the many years of hard work. This anniversary calls us to reflect on where we have been and where we are going."

On June 24, 2022, the US Supreme Court issued an opinion on the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Justice Alito wrote the opinion, with Justices Thomas and Kavanaugh filing concurring opinions. Justices Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan filed a dissenting opinion. Chief Justice Roberts filed an opinion concurring on the judgment, according to SCOTUSBlog.com.
The 6-3 decision stated that the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion. Additionally, "Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey are overruled; the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives," according to SCOTUSBlog.com.
Ahead of the first anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, CBS News Chicago reported that abortion remains legal in Illinois. In 2019, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a law making reproductive healthcare (including abortion) a human right. Pritzker’s law enhanced a 2017 law signed by Governor Bruce Rauner that codified abortion as a legal procedure in the state.
Niemerg was first elected in 2020 and describes himself as a "fiscal conservative focused on reducing taxes and fighting for limited government and pension reform," according to his official biography. He is also a senior claims adjuster with Country Financial and holds a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University.
