Shelby Co., Ill. (ECWd) – An inquiry into the whereabouts of a State’s Attorney Conference in Orlando, Florida, during December 2022 has led to new findings. Despite exhaustive efforts to identify such a conference and concluding that none took place in Florida, another significant detail has emerged.

While the source of the public record cannot be disclosed at this time, it has been confirmed that the former Shelby County State’s Attorney received an email from the Illinois State’s Attorney Association. Attached to this communication was a flyer stating:

“Santa is Back

ILLINOIS STATE’S ATTORNEYS ASSOCIATION

2022 WINTER CONFERENCE

HYATT LODGE OAK BROOK

2815 JORIE BLVD.

OAK BROOK, IL 60523

ON DECEMBER 14-16, 2022”

With confirmation that the Illinois State’s Attorney Association held its winter conference in Oak Brook, IL from December 14-16, 2022, questions arise regarding former State’s Attorney Nichole Kroncke's use of public funds. Specifically, why did she reserve a hotel in Orlando, FL using public credit in November 2022?

Kroncke's letter indicated she attended the State’s Attorney conference and intended to pay for it herself due to her impending resignation. This raises further questions: Was this truly her reason or does it suggest a personal purchase for a Florida hotel reservation? The matter remains under scrutiny with many questions yet unanswered.

It is hoped that the Illinois State Police are closely monitoring and will provide clarity through their investigation.
