City of Casey City Council met March 4.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The Regular Meeting of the City Council was held Monday March 4th, 2024;

beginning at 6:00 p.m. Mayor Mike Nichols was present and called the meeting to order. Jeremiah Hanley led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call:

Present: Alderman Hanley

Alderman Jenkins

Alderman Mumford

Alderman Wilson

Absent: Alderman Richardson

Alderman Williams

A quorum was declared.

Public Forum:

 None

Community Affairs:

None

Meeting Minutes:

Mayor Nichols looked for approval of the minutes of the February 20th, 2024

City Council Meeting.

Alderman Mumford motioned approval of the minutes of the February 20th, 2024 City Council Meeting, seconded by Alderman Jenkins. Upon roll call the vote was:

Ayes: 4 – Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, Richardson, and Wilson

Nays: 0 – None

Absent: 2 – Richardson and Williams

Motion declared carried.

Officers Reports:

Clerk Mumford presented February 2024 Bills paid in the amount of $1,880,935.92 for approval.

Alderman Wilson motioned approval of February 2024 Bills Paid, seconded by Alderman Hanley. Upon roll call the vote was:

Ayes: 4 – Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, Richardson, and Wilson

Nays: 0 – None

Absent: 2 – Richardson and Williams

Motion declared carried.

Treasurer Lorton presented February 2024 Treasurer’s Collection Deposit report for approval in the amount of $673,756.42.

Alderman Jenkins motioned approval of February 2024 Treasurer’s Collection Deposit report, seconded by Alderman Mumford. Upon roll call the vote was:

Ayes: 4 – Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, Richardson, and Wilson

Nays: 0 – None

Absent: 2 – Richardson and Williams

Motion declared carried.

Attorney Willenborg presented Ordinance #556: Amends Chapter 3.28 of the City of Casey Code of Ordinances, Relating to Contracts for approval.

Alderman Hanley motioned approval of Ordinance #556, seconded by Alderman Wilson. Upon roll call the vote was:

Ayes: 4 – Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, Richardson, and Wilson

Nays: 0 – None

Absent: 2 – Richardson and Williams

Motion declared carried.

Superintendent Biggs went over the IMEA Power Supply Agreement. We will have this ordinance on the agenda for the next meeting for approval.

Council would like to bid out properties again, including the 5 we recently received.

Mayor Mike went over the possible Mavrick project and some of the costs. At this time Mayor Mike doesn’t think this is something we can afford to run utilities to. Chief Henderson reported that he has new stickers in for Golf Cart and ATVs. 

EMA Director Craig said he won’t be testing the sirens this month due to potential storms that day.

New Business:

None

Unfinished Business:

We will table the approval of Ordinance #555 due to the absence of 2 alderman tonight.

Alderman Reports:

Alderman Wilson asked if we could put building permit information on the back of our next Utility bills.

Alderman Hanley talked about route 40 closing over by Martinsville.

Mayor Report:

Mayor Nichols gave an update on the fishing dock and talked about possible tree carving.

There was no further Business of the City Council for the March 4th, 2024 Council Meeting.

Alderman Mumford motioned to adjourn, seconded by Alderman Jenkins. Upon roll call the vote was:

Ayes: 4 – Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, Richardson, and Wilson

Nays: 0 – None

Absent: 2 – Richardson and Williams

Motion declared carried.

Adjournment of the City Council was at 6:35 p.m.
