City of Arcola City Council met March 4.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Garza called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Members present were Alderpersons Foran, Hensley, Helmuth, Henson, Becerra and Budd. City Administrator Wagoner, Treasurer Anderson and Attorney Bequette were also present.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 

Alderman Foran led the council and audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

PUBLIC COMMENT 

There was none.

APPROVAL OF FEBRUARY 20, 2024 COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

Alderman Hensley moved to approve the February 20, 2024 council meeting minutes as presented and was seconded by Alderman Henson. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

APPROVAL OF FEBRUARY 17, 2024 THROUGH MARCH 01, 2024 BILLS

Alderwoman Helmuth moved to approve the February 17, 2024 – March 01, 2024 bills as presented and was seconded by Alderman Foran. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

APPROVAL OF THE TREASURER’S REPORT FOR FEBRUARY 2024

Alderwoman Helmuth moved to approve the Treasurer’s report for February 2024 and was seconded by Alderman Becerra. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

APPROVAL OF THE FEBRUARY ZONING OFFICER’S REPORT

The Zoning Officer reported 1 permit issued in the month of February with valuation of $320,000 and a fee in amount of $1,280 collected. Alderman Foran moved to approve the February Zoning Officer’s report as presented and was seconded by Alderman Henson. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

CONSIDER AND ACCEPT THE RESIGNATION OF OFFICER ZAKARY HUTTON

Alderman Henson moved to accept the resignation of Officer Zakary Hutton and was seconded by Alderman Becerra. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

CONSIDER AND APPROVE RENEWAL OF EMPLOYEE HEALTH INSURANCE WITH BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF ILLINOIS

Alderman Becerra moved to approve renewal of employee health insurance with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. The premium has a11% increase from the previous year. Alderman Budd seconded the motion. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

CONSIDER AND APPROVE RENEWAL OF EMPLOYEE VISION AND DENTAL INSURANCE WITH MUTUAL OF OMAHA

Alderwoman Helmuth moved to approve renewal of employee vision and dental insurance with Mutual of Omaha. Vision has a 7% increase and dental is same as previous year. Alderman Budd seconded the motion. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Alderman Foran Had nothing at this time.

Alderman Hensley Had nothing at this time.

Alderwoman Helmuth Had nothing at this time.

Alderman Henson Reported the Police, Ordinance & Enforcement Committee met prior to this meeting and discussed officer shortage and possibly hiring 2 part-time officers. Also reviewed the liquor license changes and considered an ordinance to regulate video gaming.

Alderman Becerra Had nothing at this time.

Alderman Budd Reported the Water & Sewer Committee met prior to this meeting and considered leasing a Vermeer vac trailer.

As this concluded the business of the meeting, Alderman Hensley moved to adjourn and was seconded by Alderman Becerra. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.
