State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) has joined forces with the Illinois Optometric Association to offer complimentary safety sunglasses to residents of the 102nd District for viewing the total eclipse of the sun on April 8, 2024. "I am happy to work with the Illinois Optometric Association to get these safety glasses to as many people as possible at no charge," said Rep. Niemerg. The glasses, provided by the Illinois Optometric Association, meet the ISO 12312-2 safety standards and are made in the USA with a three-year guarantee.

The Illinois Optometric Association is providing these certified glasses to ensure safe viewing of the upcoming total eclipse in early April. If you would like to have a pair for yourself and your family, please contact Rep. Niemerg's office in Teutopolis. Individuals are encouraged to contact the district office by Friday, April 5th to arrange a time to pick up the sunglasses at 107 E. Main Street in Teutopolis.

For those who are unable to visit the district office before April 8, solar eclipse glasses will be available at the Satellite Office Hours locations on Thursday, April 4. The locations include Newton City Hall from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m., Robinson Public Library from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m., and Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce in Lawrenceville from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

Residents of the 102nd District are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to safely view the total eclipse by obtaining their free safety glasses before the celestial event on April 8th.
