Representative Brad Halbrook and several House Republican colleagues have called for public hearings in Illinois to address the ongoing illegal immigration crisis. In a letter addressed to House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch, the representatives expressed their deep concern and outlined their experiences during visits to migrant shelters and facilities in Chicago.

During their visits, the representatives were met with obstacles and resistance from government employees. They were denied access to shelters, such as the Washington Public Library, and witnessed unidentified individuals being allowed entry. At the Standard Club, some staff members even deemed the legislators a "security and safety risk."

Following these visits, the representatives had lunch with concerned residents from minority communities who shared their frustrations and demands for action. The residents expressed disappointment in the lack of response from their local legislators on the issue.

In light of these experiences and the gravity of the immigration crisis, the representatives are formally requesting public hearings to be held in Northern, Central, and Southern Illinois, starting with the City of Chicago.
