Rep. Niemerg Discusses Funding Opportunities for Communities: Local Officials Share Ideas on Economic Development

State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) recently held a roundtable discussion with local mayors, township leaders, and county officials from Champaign and Vermilion Counties in the 102nd District. The meeting, hosted by the Georgetown Fair Conference & Banquet Center, focused on various topics related to economic development and funding opportunities for communities.

During the discussion, Rep. Niemerg emphasized the importance of utilizing state resources to pass legislation that can benefit villages, cities, townships, and counties. He also highlighted the availability of grants and low-interest loans for infrastructure projects, fire safety equipment, and economic development initiatives.

"My office is available to help with ideas on possible funding sources such as grants and low-interest loans," said Rep. Niemerg. "When communities apply for these grants, I like to provide letters of support for their applications, as it will improve the quality of life for the residents of my district."

The meeting also addressed the process of accessing financial assistance in the aftermath of natural disasters such as tornadoes or flooding. Rep. Niemerg explained the steps involved in obtaining funding from sources like the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).

Among the funding sources discussed during the roundtable were the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), Illinois State Fire Marshal Office, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois Department of Natural Resources, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) – Rural Development (RD), and the United States Department of Justice (DOJ).

Local officials who were unable to attend the meeting were encouraged to contact Rep. Niemerg's district office for assistance. They can reach the office at 217-813-6036 to receive a packet of information or seek help in identifying possible grants for their community projects.

The roundtable discussion provided an opportunity for local officials to share their ideas on economic development and collaborate with Rep. Niemerg on finding funding solutions. By leveraging state resources and exploring various funding sources, communities in the 102nd District can enhance their infrastructure, improve public safety measures, and promote economic growth.

The event was hosted by the Georgetown Fair Conference & Banquet Center, with assistance from Don Hackler and Mike Black. Legislative Assistant Dallas Bear played a vital role in coordinating the meeting and ensuring its success.
