Shelbyville, IL — State Representative Brad Halbrook, recognized as the most conservative member of the General Assembly, today highlighted a recent Wirepoints report underscoring the significant impact of his refusal to accept a taxpayer-funded pension. Halbrook’s bold decision resulted in substantial taxpayer savings and started a trend among legislators to do the same.
“Real change comes from actions, not just words. As the most conservative member of the General Assembly and a founding member of the Illinois Freedom Caucus, I’ll always protect taxpayers and their rights,” stated Brad Halbrook. “Rejecting the taxpayer-funded pension was a stand for fiscal responsibility and a call to action for my fellow legislators. There will never be pension reform – and hence property tax relief – as long as lawmakers keep getting pensions.”
“Principled conservative leadership matters and gets results,” said Halbrook. “By taking principled, courageous stands to put taxpayers first, we’ve delivered results for ordinary families, even with Chicago Democrats in supermajority control. By refusing the state pension, I stand with taxpaying families.”
As the March 19th Primary election draws near, voters are reminded by the Wirepoints report to consider a candidate’s stance on state pensions as a key factor in their decision-making, saying, “Ordinary Illinoisans should add a state candidate’s promise to reject a pension as one of the main reasons to vote for them.”
