City of Casey City Council met June 5

City of Casey City Council met June 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The Regular Meeting of the City Council was held Monday June 5th, 2023; beginning at 6:00 p.m. Mayor Mike Nichols was present and called the meeting to order. Steve Jenkins led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call:

Present: Alderman Hanley

Alderman Jenkins

Alderman Mumford

Alderman Richardson

Alderman Williams

Alderman Wilson

Absent: None

A quorum was declared.

Public Forum:

Shane Mitchell with J&K Mitchell was present and had some concerns with the current Business District Plan. He was questioning why some businesses are exempt from it, while others of the same type of business are in it. Mayor Nichols said he would look to see if they can make any changes and when those changes can be done.

Community Affairs:

None

Meeting Minutes:

Mayor Nichols looked for approval of the minutes of the May 15th, 2023 City Council Meeting.

Alderman Mumford motioned approval of the minutes of the May 15th, 2023 City Council Meeting, seconded by Alderman Jenkins. Upon roll call the vote was:

Ayes: 6 – Mumford, Richardson, Williams, Wilson, Hanley and Jenkins

Nays: 0 – None

Motion declared carried.

Officers Reports:

Clerk Mumford presented May 2023 Bills Paid for approval in the amount of $1,560,192.39.

Alderman Richardson motioned approval of the May 2023 Bills Paid, seconded by Alderman Hanley. Upon roll call the vote was:

Ayes: 6 – Richardson, Williams, Wilson, Hanley, Jenkins and Mumford

Nays: 0 – None

Motion declared carried.

Attorney Willenborg presented Ordinance #535: Committee Change Ordinance for approval. She pointed out that she has Paragraph F, Utility committee listed twice, so would like approval with the change of taking one of those references out.

Alderman Hanley motioned approval of Ordinance #535, with the noted change, seconded by Alderman Wilson. Upon roll call the vote was:

Ayes: 6 – Williams, Wilson, Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford and Richardson

Nays: 0 – None

Motion declared carried.

Superintendent Biggs reported that City Wide Clean up is set for June 17th thru June 24th. Summer workers started on May 30th, and the water department is still flushing fire hydrants.

Economic Development Director Tait reported that the downtown summer concert series is starting this Thursday June 8th. Also reported on Crazy Casey Days.

New Business:

Unfinished Business:

Alderman Williams reported on the public hearing held on 6/5/2023, where they presented the FY 24 Appropriations.

Alderman Williams motioned approval of Ordinance #536: Fiscal Year 2024 Appropriations for approval, seconded by Alderman Mumford. Upon roll call the vote was:

Ayes: 6 – Wilson, Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, Richardson and Williams

Nays: 0 – None

Motion declared carried.

Alderman Reports:

Alderman Williams thanked the utility workers for getting the power issue fixed quickly. Alderman Mumford would like to have a Downtown Improvement/Economic Development/Festivals and Events committee meeting on Tuesday June 13th, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. She also had some questions on the motorized bikes and where we were with that. Alderman Richardson thanked John Crouch for all the work he has put into getting the Summer Concert series organized.

Alderman Williams left the meeting at 6:52 p.m.

Mayor Report:

Mayor Nichols gave a report on updated security cameras for City Hall and the Downtown restrooms.

There was no further Business of the City Council for the June 5th, 2023 Council Meeting.

Alderman Mumford motioned to adjourn, seconded by Alderman Richardson. Upon roll call the vote was:

Ayes: 5 – Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, Richardson and Wilson

Nays: 0 – None

Absent: 1 – Williams

Motion declared carried.

Adjournment of the City Council was at 6:53 p.m.
