Arcola Community Unit School District #306 Building Committee met Dec. 5

Arcola Community Unit School District #306 Building Committee met Dec. 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Present: Tom Mulligan, Superintendent, Ken Vogt – Director of Building and Grounds, Dave Porter; Board Members: Lucas Shonkwiler, Sue Stout, Jim Crane, Dr. Robert Arrol, Chad Strader, and Craig Wesch.

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm at the Arcola High School Library.

Dr. Mulligan presented information on all of the gym banners. Dr. Mulligan recommended that based on the condition of the old banners, we would be best trying to get all new banners with new design, etc. Dr. Mulligan indicated he would start working on that immediately. The committee would like to see some designs for making a final decision.

Dr. Mulligan and Ken Vogt presented an update plan and cost breakdown for renovating the family consumer science room. The plan includes the asbestos abatement. The committee is recommending approval to the full board for moving forward with the project.

Dr. Mulligan presented on the new security devices to secure doors in case of a violent intruder situation. He explained the research behind the device and the reason they are a good fit for our district. He is recommending they move forward with this purchase in January. The committee is supportive with moving forward.

Dr. Mulligan updated the committee on the locker room renovation. They are still gathering pricing but feel that moving forward is necessary. The committee discussed the possibility of removing the showers all together to create a larger room for bathrooms, etc. Dr. Mulligan and Mr. Vogt will contact the district architect to explore options.

Finally, the committee discussed the problem with the current direction for the discus throw. We have a student that continually hits the tree with his throws. The group decided that rather than take down the tree, we should explore the idea of moving the fencing.

The building committee meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.
