Coming off its big upset road win at Iowa last week, a pair of Eastern Illinois players picked up weekly Ohio Valley Conference awards on Monday.  Kinyon Hodges was named the OVC Player of the Week while Kyle Thomas was tabbed the OVC co-Freshman of the Week.

Hodges helped power the Panthers to just their fourth-ever win over a Power Five opponent as the Panthers beat Iowa 92-83.  Hodges scored a team-high 22 points going 10-of-15 from the field with seven of those ten field goals finished with dunks.  He would add six assists, three steals and two rebounds in the big win.

Thomas won his second OVC Freshman of the Week honor this season as he was 6-of-7 from the field finishing with 13 points.  He would add seven rebounds as EIU won the battle on the glass against the Hawkeyes finishing with a 42-38 rebound edge.

The win was listed by ESPN as the biggest regular season win in more than 30 years against the spread as EU was a 31.5 point underdog while picking up the 92-83 road win.  EIU's previous wins over Power Five opponents were over Ole Miss, Wisconsin and Missouri.

The Panthers will open Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend with home games against Lindenwood and Southern Indiana on Thursday and Saturday.  Ticket specials for both games are available at the gate.  $5 general admission tickets for Thursday's OVC opener with a 7:30 pm tip (women's game before at 5 pm) and ring in the New Year on Dec. 31 with $1 days - $1 general admission tickets, $1 popcorn, $1 soda as EIU hosts Southern Indiana at 3:30 pm (women's game before at 1 pm).
