Panthers Host The Ramblers
Eastern Illinois women's basketball returns home to take on the Loyola Chicago Ramblers on Sunday, November 20. A win would give the Panthers 4-0 starts in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history. Tipoff is set for 2 PM CT.
Last Game
EIU pulled out a 73-67 road win over the Valparaiso Beacons. Lariah Washington led the way with 33 points on 11-of-18 shooting and had four rebounds and four assists. Julia Bengtson scored 11 points, while Macy McGlone contributed with nine points and five rebounds. Miah Monahan again ran the point effectively for EIU, dishing out seven assists for the third straight game to go along with six points, five rebounds, and two steals.
Player to Watch
Lyric Johnson has provided a spark off the bench in the early part of the season for EIU. She scored 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting in EIU's road win over Western Illinois, and she led the team with eight rebounds to go along with four points and three assists in EIU's win at Valparaiso. Through three games, she is averaging 4.7 points per game and five rebounds per game while averaging 22 minutes per game.
Looking at Loyola
Loyola Chicago is led by first-year head coach Allison Guth. The Ramblers come into Sunday's game with a record of 1-2, having won their first game 60-51 at Western Michigan and then dropping their last two games 66-76 at Milwaukee and 62-68 vs. Virginia. The Ramblers have been led offensively through three games by junior guard Maya Chandler, who is shooting it at a 53.6% clip, is a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line, and is averaging 15.7 points per game. Senior guard Anna Brown is averaging 11.7 points per game and leads the A-10 in three-point percentage at 63.6%. Junior forward Sitori Tanin averages a team-high 6.3 rebounds per game.
Series History
Sunday will mark the 20th all-time meeting between the Panthers and the Ramblers. Loyola Chicago leads the all-time series 10-9 and has won the last four meetings between the two teams, including a 58-48 result in last season's meeting in Chicago on December 8, 2021. EIU's last win over the Ramblers was an 81-80 result on November 21, 2013 at Lantz Arena.
