Smith Paces Men's Golf At Cleveland State Event

Eastern Illinois men's golf wrapped up the third of its four fall tournaments on Tuesday afternoon as the Panthers played at the 54-hole Tom Tontimonia Invitational at the Lakewood Country Club.

 

Preston Smith closed with a fury shooting a one-under par 70 on Monday afternoon before a round of 73 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 39th.   Smith had a 54-hole total of 223.

 

Pierce Allord and Keegan Gowin both tied as EIU's second best finishers as they tied for 52nd with a total of 228.  Both players carded their best rounds of the tournament on Monday afternoon with a 73.  As a team EIU had its best round on Monday afternoon with a 294.

 

EIU would finish 14th in the team standings as Oakland won the team title.  Henry May of Dayton was the individual medalist shooting a three-under total of 210, the lone player in the field to shoot under par for the tournament.

 

Ben Lanman and Grant Mascal rounded out EIU's golfers in the tournament.  Lanman was 74th with a score of 240.  His best round was 78 on Monday afternoon.  Mascal was 77th with a score of 244.  His best round was 80 on the opening 18 holes on Monday morning.

 

EIU's final fall tournament will be Oct. 17-18 at the North Alabama TVA Community Credit Union Invite in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
