City of Martinsville City Council met March 9.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

*The meeting was called to order by Mayor Davidson. Alderman Lovell led us in Prayer. All in attendance recited the “Pledge of Allegiance.” Roll call was answered by the following council members and elected officials: Chris Davidson, Chris Perry, Melinda Lovell, John Skinner, and Troy Propst. Preston Rukes was absent. Also, in attendance were Mayor Herman Davidson, Clerk Jana Akers, and Attorney Richard Bernardoni. Employees and citizens in attendance are attached to the back of the minutes.

PUBLIC COMMENTS:

-Motion by T Propst 2nd by M Lovell for approval of February 23rd Minutes

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (5)

-Motion by M Lovell 2nd by C Perry on approval of Treasurer’s report as presented

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (5)

-Motion by J Skinner 2nd by C Davidson for approval of February 2022 bills payable March 2022 in the amount of $128,354.33

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (5)

-Clayton Wells was here to talk to the council about a block party he would like to host on August 27, 2022. He addressed them on what he had planned and was asking the council if he would be able to get a road closure for that event. He stated he had a band booked and they would be playing from 8pm until 12am.

-Motion by C Davidson 2nd by J Skinner to give Mayor Davidson permission to close Cumberland Road from York Street to Union Street on August 27, 2022

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (5)

-J Skinner spoke to the council about the CLEAN uniforms coming and discussing a new contract. The council agreed they would like a representative to come to the next council meeting.

-Motion by C Perry 2nd by M Lovell to adjourn council meeting at 7:50pm

Council Comments:

Mayor Davidson:

-stated the water line is in at the water tower

-asked the council about hiring summer help

-Stated they are getting the Civic utility update going

-asked if they were still wanting to part with the red utility truck

C Davidson:

-said to get summer help applications out

-asked about water tower antennas

- talked about the vehicle still parked along the road on Washington

-talked about the drug activity in town

-asked about the elevator weight test

-said the zip line is better

-trash around town

J Skinner:

-mentioned the properties being dumpy
