Analysis: Cowden-Herrick administrators rank 799th in state for average pay

Administrators in Cowden-Herrick Community Unit School District 3A earn an average of $75,505 per year, ranking 799th out of 864 districts in Illinois, according to a East Central Reporter analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The 2020 average is 1.6 percent higher than in 2016 and 10.1 percent lower than in 2011. District administrators make 32.2 percent less than the state average of $111,293.

Administrator salaries depend on the district's size, location and resources, as well as the individual's level of experience and education, according to the Illinois State Board of Education report.

The Cowden-Herrick School District in Shelby County enrolled 326 students in 2019-2020. There is an average of 109 students for every administrator, compared to a statewide ratio of 171 to 1.
