State Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Louisville) introduced former talk-radio host Stephanie Trussell as his choice for running mate at a campaign stop Dec. 13 at a restaurant in Lisle.
"Cindy and I are so excited to be here today with you to introduce to you the newest member of our team. She’s a hard-working conservative, a fighter, a mother, a grandmother and Illinois' next lieutenant governor, Stephanie Trussell."
Trussell has seven years of experience as a talk-radio show host for WLS AM-890 in Chicago. She also performed fill-in duties at WIND AM-560, Chicago. Trussell presently resides in Lisle. She grew up on Chicago's West Side.
Bailey also used the stop to pitch his candidacy for governor.
"Our home is in trouble. And when your home is in danger you stand up and do something about it. That's why we're here today, because we all know that Springfield is broken and working families and taxpayers are paying the price," Bailey told supporters. "We are tired of the political class selling out the working class taxpayers because they don’t have the backbone to stand up and do what's right. We're tired of extreme liberal policies being pushed in Springfield while weak-kneed Republicans are too afraid to stand up and deliver a simple conservative message. We need bold and courageous leaders who will stand up for the working people and taxpayers, leaders who will fight for economic prosperity and economic opportunities."
Bailey went on to talk about policy proposals he supports and what he viewed as the grassroots movement supporting him.
"As your next governor, I'll remove the mandates and encourage parental involvement," Bailey said. "I will fight for your ability to send your kids to the best schools and that our children's education is focused on teaching them to chase their dreams and accomplish their next step. As Cindy and I continue to travel across our great state and listen to Illinoisans who are fed up with Springfield, the more we realized that this is not just a campaign. Friends, this is a movement. We’re a grassroots movement working to build a stronger and a better future for Illinois and I can promise you this, change is coming and help is on the way."
Additional Republican candidates running in the June primary with the ultimate goal of running against Gov. J.B. Pritzker are businessmen Gary Rabine of Bull Valley, Jessie Sullivan of Petersburg and former state Sen. Paul Schimpf of Waterloo.
