CITY OF MATTOON: Planting Seeds Is Believing In Tomorrow

City of Mattoon issued the following announcement on May. 5. 

Every Saturday afternoon Coles County Historical Society Museum at the Mattoon Depot open 1-4pm

Entry is free, public is welcome. Enter by the stairs at the front of the building or by elevator from the east side door. The museum is located on the track level.

  • May 6, 13, 20, 27 Free Workshops for Small Business Owners at Elevate, presented by Amy Patrick Life and Wellness, and Elevate
  • Recent reports indicate that within the Top 5 Biggest Challenges for Entrepreneurs this year is a Lack of Work-Life Balance. May Workshops will focus on Mental Wellbeing for the Small Business Owner offering a 4-Part Blended Learning Series of In-person Workshops.   • May 7 Broadway Christian Church, "I'll be there for you" women's conference
  • Hey ladies, you are encouraged to be a part of this upcoming night to celebrate friendship.   • May 7 Spring Bridge Painting event at Artsy Chic Studio
  • Join Christina on Friday, May 7th at 6pm to create a beautiful spring scene. $45 includes all materials and instruction needed to complete this 16x20 masterpiece. Must be 18+ to attend, feel free to bring adult beverages, drinks and snacks! Must be 21+ to drink alcohol. Let them know if you are meeting friends so they can save you seats together.   • May 7-9 Mattoon Cobra Softball 4GG Mother's Day Tourney
  • Play Ball! The Annual Mattoon Cobra's Softball Mother's Day event is this weekend. Games will be played at the Mattoon Girls Softball Roundhouse Complex, located just off I-57 and Route 16. For more information check them out on Facebook.

  • May 8 "Moms are Tweet", Douglas Hart Nature Center
  • Moms are ‘tweet’ and deserve to be celebrated, so fly into the nature center for this Mother’s Day program. Families will enjoy a story, learn about backyard birds, and build and paint a bird feeder together. While your bird feeder is drying, enjoy a bird hike with a naturalist.   • May 8 Crochet class at the Wooden Nickel-Hidden Talents
  • Marilyn Smith is teaching a Crochet class this Saturday, May 8th from 1-2pm. Materials will be provided and the cost is $10 per person. Classes are limited to 6 people at this time. Participants must notify the Wooden-Nickel before the event. Please call 217-235-9663 or stop by the shop at 2417 Lake Land Blvd to reserve your seat. 

  • May 8 Class Pack Car Club Car Show in Peterson Park
  • Registration is $15, from 9am-12pm. Awards will be presented at 2pm. All vehicles welcome. Net proceeds benefit Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
