• CTE Highlight

o Toward the end of last year, the CTE department received additional funds from Habitat for Humanity. They used those funds to purchase a more advanced 3D Printer. It has dual extruder setup and can be used remotely through WiFi. This allows anyone in the building to print from their desktop computer. The CAD and manufacturing class will use it for prototyping and for 3D modeling assignments.

o The manufacturing class is using Lean Manufacturing principles to sort and organize our shop work place. We intend to develop specific fabrication areas and to designate those areas with their own fabricated signage. Signage will utilize the CNC router or the Laser Engraver. In addition, the CTE department is working to develop a plastic bottle recycling grinder. It's intended purpose will be to pelletize plastic and potentially aluminum. This project is in its  development stage.

o The computer programming course has been selected by the University of Texas at Houston to  partake in a pilot study. Students will learn innovative methodologies and multiple coding  languages (scratch & python).

o The computer applications course has been designing disposable placements for the residents  of the Shelbyville Manor. The placemats will highlight nostalgia specific to the developmental  years of the residents.

• Ready Rosie - Research-based resource tied to our curriculum that teachers can share with families. It uses videos to model activities caregivers can do with their young children. The activities are aligned with state standards for 0-5 year olds. The intent is not to copy "school" at "home", but to show parents ways they can extend their child's school learning experience in natural home environments. It also has educational videos for parents with answers to questions like "How should I handle temper tantrums?” or “How can I recognize signs of stress in my child and what can I do about it?"
