Arcola Community Unified School District 306 Board of Education met Sept. 9.

A regular meeting of the Board of Education of Arcola Community Unit District #306 Arcola, Illinois was called to order in the Media Center at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 for the purpose of regular business.
President Strader called the meeting to order. The following members answered roll call: Stout, Shonkwiler, Wesch, Arrol and Strader. Board member Crane arrived during the business portion of the meeting. Board member Thieman was not present.
Others present were: Tom Mulligan, Jennifer Frichtl, Angie Gentry (via Zoom), Cathy Brimner, Nick Lindsey, and David Porter.
President Strader opened the Fiscal Year 2021 School District Budget Hearing. He asked if there were any questions regarding the budget and when none occurred, he closed the hearing.
President Strader recognized the visitors and asked for public comment. There was none.
Dr. Mulligan reported there was one FOIA request for the certified payroll for the paint portion of the elementary addition project.

Motion by Shonkwiler, seconded by Wesch, to approve the payment of bills as submitted in the amount of $538,466.46. Roll call vote: Stout, aye; Shonkwiler, aye; Wesch, aye; Arrol, aye; Strader, aye. 5 ayes. 0 nays. Motion carried.

Administrative Team Reports
~~Mrs. Gentry, Principal, Arcola Elementary – It has been an intense and overwhelming start to the school year, but Mrs. Gentry is very impressed with how staff members are responding. The kids are doing great and adapting to the new requirements. The parents are doing phenomenal with all the new procedures as well.
~~Mr. Lindsey, Assistant Principal, Arcola Jr/Sr High – This week is the first week the students have been logging into a class remotely in the afternoon and so far it is going well. The guidance team met to discuss how to better use time in the afternoon to reach remote learners. Staff and students have been doing an outstanding job.
~~Mrs. Brimner, Director of Special Services – Due to the closure in March, the Special Services department started the school year finishing up remaining items from last school year. Several evaluations and meetings were completed utilizing Google Meet and conference calls. Rti also did online training for working remotely with students.
~~Dr. Mulligan, Superintendent – Dr. Mulligan informed the Board that Erica Thieman was resigning from her position on the Board. The board will have 60 days to fill the vacancy.
Motion by Shonkwiler, seconded by Wesch, to enter executive session at 7:55 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, specific individuals who serve as independent contractors in an educational setting, or specific volunteers of the public body; and collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedule for one or more classes of employees. Motion by Crane, seconded by Shonkwiler, to approve the employment of Robert Schutzbach as Maintenance/Custodian and Stephanie Flier as High School Counselor, under the condition that she continues to work toward her licensure.
