Rep. Bailey Statement on Madigan Investigation: Chairman Welch Stone-walling to Protect His Family’s Patronage Jobs
In light of the recent hearing of the Special Investigating Committee into Speaker Michael Madigan’s role in the ComEd’s scheme to influence legislation favorable to the energy company, State Rep. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) has the following comment:
“I agree with Governor JB Pritzker and General Assembly Members on both sides of the aisle on this issue…that Speaker Michael Madigan needs to appear before the Special Investigating Committee to answer questions about the charge of conduct unbecoming of a House Member.
The actions of the Committee’s Chairman, Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch to block the sending of several subpoenas including one to Speaker Madigan, is unacceptable and shows why our constituents and people across this country believe Illinois is corrupt. Speaker Madigan should want to appear and clear his name so this issue isn’t hanging over his head and all who receive money and help from him as the Speaker and as Chairman of the Democratic Party of Illinois.”
