BOARD OF EDUCATION

Regular Board Meeting – July 15, 2020 - Windsor Jr/Sr High School Library

1.Call to Order/Roll callPresident Matt Greuel called the meeting to order at 6:30pm.

The following were present: Matt Greuel, Brett Barnard, Michelle Schultz, Karen Pfeiffer, Stacy Cole, Albert Shafer, and Nick Hendrickson. Administrators Erik Van Hoveln, Jennifer Bridges, and April Drake were also present.

a.Superintendent Report

Mr. Van Hoveln reported:

2.Title II

Purpose:

To provide funds to increase student academic achievement by elevating teacher and principal quality through recruitment, hiring, and retention strategies and to hold local educational agencies and schools accountable for improvements in student academic achievement.

1) increase student achievement consistent with the challenging State academic standards;

2) improve the quality and effectiveness of teachers, principals, and other school leaders;

3) increase the number of teachers, principals, and other school leaders who are effective in improving student academic achievement in schools; and provide low-income and minority students greater access to effective teachers, principals, and other school leaders.

Funding:

Funds are calculated based on the low-income census count (80%) and on public and private, nonprofit K-12 enrollment (20%) using numbers provided by the U.S. Department of Education

FY 20 we spent $6500 from Title II.

3.Expenditure rate will not be included until the budget is acted on by the board. Most likely it will be back in October.

b.Principal Reports

Mrs. Bridges reported:

*Summer school began on July 6. We are trying a version of blended learning. Some students are at the elementary in-person, while four students are at home learning online. Summer school hours are from 8-11 each day through July 31.

*July 23, we are to have installed an interactive panel and cameras. The equipment has come to us through Lake Land and was funded by a USDA grant. The intent is to make distance learning for dual credit/enrollment classes easier.

*Registration is planned for July 29 from 1 to 7 pm and July 30 from 8 until noon.

5.Consent Agenda – Approval of minutes, bills, and treasurers report; Review executive session minutes 1/15/20.

Cole made a motion to approve and review, seconded by Barnard. Member’s votes were: Barnard – yes, Schultz – yes, Pfeiffer– yes, Cole – yes, Shafer – yes, Hendrickson – yes, and Greuel – yes. MOTION CARRIED 7 – yes, 0 – no.

6.Discussion Items

a.2019-2020 Transportation Report

Bobby Orman was present to give a report on the transportation department from the 2019-2020 school year.

b.2019-2020 Academic Advisor Update

Becky Fogarty was present to give a report on the 2019-2020 academic year.

c.Discuss Tentative Re-Opening Plan

The tentative school re-opening plan was discussed.

7.Action Items

a.Second Reading of Board Policy: Adding Social Media Policy to 5:125

Greuel made a motion to approve, seconded by Pfeiffer. Member’s votes were: Schultz – yes, Pfeiffer– yes, Cole – yes, Shafer – yes, Hendrickson – yes, Greuel – yes, and Barnard – yes. MOTION CARRIED 7 – yes, 0 – no.

b.Possible 2020-2021 School Calendar Amendment

Greuel made a motion to approve, seconded by Schultz. Member’s votes were: Pfeiffer– yes, Cole – yes, Shafer – yes, Hendrickson – yes, Greuel – yes, Barnard – yes, and Schultz – yes. MOTION CARRIED 7 – yes, 0 – no.

8.Executive Session

Hendrickson made a motion to go into executive session at 7:39pm, seconded by Barnard. Member’s votes were: Cole – yes, Shafer – yes, Hendrickson – yes, Greuel – yes, Barnard – yes, Schultz – yes, and Pfeiffer– yes. MOTION CARRIED 7 – yes, 0 – no.

9.Return to Open Session – Possible Action from Executive Session

Shafer made a motion to return to open session at 8:22pm, seconded by Barnard. Member’s votes were: Shafer – yes, Hendrickson – yes, Greuel – yes, Barnard – yes, Schultz – yes, Pfeiffer– yes, and Cole – yes. MOTION CARRIED 7 – yes, 0 – no.

a.Hire: Lindsay Floyd – Junior High Softball Coach

Greuel made a motion to approve, seconded by Schultz. Member’s votes were: Hendrickson – yes, Greuel – yes, Barnard – yes, Schultz – yes, Pfeiffer– yes, Cole – yes, and Shafer – yes. MOTION CARRIED 7 – yes, 0 – no.

b.Hire: Jay Potter – Long Term Spanish Substitute Teacher – 1st Semester

Greuel made a motion to approve, seconded by Barnard. Member’s votes were: Greuel – yes, Barnard – yes, Schultz – yes, Pfeiffer– yes, Cole – yes, Shafer – yes, and Hendrickson – yes. MOTION CARRIED 7 – yes, 0 – no.

10.Other Business None.

11.Adjournment 

A motion to adjourn was made by Hendrickson, seconded by Greuel at 8:23pm. MOTION CARRIED by voice vote – all yes.
