Chicago (53,670 cases) and Cook County (39,111 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,636, while Cook County recorded 1,994 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,782,840, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 25,740 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 69,787 were male and 75,370 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,811, while female deaths stood at 3,210.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,126 Asians, 3,126 whites, 1,958 African-Americans, 1,452 Hispanics, and 160 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
