Chicago (54,968 cases) and Cook County (40,170 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,676, while Cook County recorded 2,035 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,944,088, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 26,503 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 72,144 were male and 78,069 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,879, while female deaths stood at 3,282.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,189 Asians, 3,189 whites, 1,982 African-Americans, 1,480 Hispanics, and 174 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
