ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 102: Halbrook: At Legislators’ urging, Secretary of State provides new and extended rules to keep truckers and other motorists on the road

102

Illinois State House District 102 issued the following announcement on April 13.

New rules and deadline extensions just announced by the Secretary of State will help keep trucks making crucial deliveries and essential workers on the road during the continued Coronavirus lockdown, and for several months after restrictions are lifted.

“The Secretary of State has adopted emergency rules extending expiration dates for driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations and other transactions his office handles for at least 90 days after Driver Services facilities reopen, which we all hope will be the beginning of May,” Rep. Halbrook said. “This extension is the right move to keep essential workers on the road, and to help prevent a rush in the first few weeks after the facilities reopen.”

Representative Halbrook said he personally contacted the Secretary of State’s Office with concerns about the need to keep Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) testing and renewal procedures up and running to ensure needed deliveries can continue uninterrupted.

“I am very happy that the emergency rules include ensuring that Third Party Testers can send in a completion form for each student who passed the CDL road exam, and CDL’s will continue to be processed and mailed while Secretary of State facilities are closed. During this difficult time it is absolutely vital that we keep trucks on the road delivering food, medicines and supplies we all need.”

Rep. Halbrook added that while Driver Services Facilities remain closed this month, some transactions are available online at www.cyberdriveillinois.com, including renewing vehicle registration or renewing a standard driver’s license with the Safe Driver Renewal program.
