Arcola School District #306 Board of Education met Dec. 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

A regular meeting of the Board of Education of Arcola Community Unit School District #306 Arcola, Illinois was called to order in the Media Center at 5:59 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 for the purpose of regular business.

President Strader called the meeting to order. The following members answered roll call: Crane, Stout, Shonkwiler, Thieman, Rothrock, Arrol and Strader.

Others present were: Tom Mulligan, Jennifer Frichtl, Angie Gentry, and David Porter.

President Strader recognized the visitors and asked for public comment. There was none.

There were no pending FOIA requests.

President Strader opened the Truth in Taxation Hearing. There were no questions. President Strader closed the Truth in Taxation Hearing.

Motion by Thieman, seconded by Shonkwiler, to approve the regular meeting minutes and closed session minutes from November 8, 2017, the Special Board meeting from November 27, 2017 and the Policy Committee meeting minutes from December 4, 2017. Roll call vote: Crane, aye; Stout, aye; Shonkwiler, aye; Thieman, aye; Rothrock, aye; Arrol, aye; Strader, aye. 7 ayes. 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Stout, seconded by Rothrock, to approve the Treasurer’s Report as of November 30, 2017 as submitted. Roll call vote: Crane, aye; Stout, aye; Shonkwiler, aye; Thieman, aye; Rothrock, aye; Arrol, aye; Strader, aye. 7 ayes. 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Shonkwiler, seconded by Thieman, to approve the payment of bills as submitted in the amount of $132,997.68. Roll call vote: Crane, aye; Stout, aye; Shonkwiler, aye; Thieman, aye; Rothrock, aye; Arrol, aye; Strader, aye. 7 ayes. 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Crane, seconded by Rothrock, to approve the payment of payroll in the amount of $437,487.46. Roll call vote: Crane, aye; Stout, aye; Shonkwiler, aye; Thieman, aye; Rothrock, aye; Arrol, aye; Strader, aye. 7 ayes. 0 nays. Motion carried.

Business:

Motion by Arrol, seconded by Thieman, to approve the 2017 tax levy and tentative certificate of abatement and reduction of taxes. Roll call vote: Crane, aye; Stout, aye; Shonkwiler, aye; Thieman, aye; Rothrock, aye; Arrol, aye; Strader, aye. 7 ayes. 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Shonkwiler, seconded by Stout, to approve the agreement with Kaplan Playgrounds for playground equipment and installation for a total cost of $18,889. Roll call vote: Crane, aye; Stout, aye; Shonkwiler, aye; Thieman, aye; Rothrock, aye; Arrol, aye; Strader, aye. 7 ayes. 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Thieman, seconded by Stout, to approve the first reading of PRESS Packet – October, 2017. Roll call vote: Crane, aye; Stout, aye; Shonkwiler, aye; Thieman, aye; Rothrock, aye; Arrol, aye; Strader,

aye. 7 ayes. 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Thieman, seconded by Shonkwiler, to approve the recommended high school course descriptions for the 2018-2019 school year. Roll call vote: Crane, aye; Stout, aye; Shonkwiler, aye; Thieman, aye; Rothrock, aye; Arrol, aye; Strader, aye. 7 ayes. 0 nays. Motion carried.

Administrative Team Reports

~~Mrs. Gentry, Principal, Arcola Elementary – Mrs. Gentry reported that the Family Literacy Night and Book Fair were well-attended. The book fair brought in $3,308 in sales. Project Success had their monthly meeting and decided to broadcast it via Facebook Live. This let parents, who couldn’t have made it otherwise, participate. This method would also allow Project Success to still have their meeting in cases of inclement weather. AES is getting into the Christmas spirit with their 12 Days of Countdown ‘til Winter Break.

~~Mrs. Sigrist, Principal, Arcola Jr/Sr High – Mrs. Sigrist was at freshmen orientation. Dr. Mulligan asked if the board had any questions regarding her report. There weren’t any.

~~Mrs. Brimner, Director of Special Services – Mrs. Brimner was at freshmen orientation so she did not give a report. Dr. Mulligan asked if the board had any questions regarding her report. There weren’t any.

~~Dr. Mulligan, Superintendent – Dr. Mulligan pointed out to the Board that he included a second semester timeline with his report this month. It is a tentative outline of key activities for the administrators, superintendent and Board for the second semester.

Motion by Rothrock, seconded by Thieman, to approve the employment of Chris Kessler as Volunteer Assistant HS Girls Basketball Coach. Roll call vote: Crane, aye; Stout, aye; Shonkwiler, aye; Thieman, aye; Rothrock, aye; Arrol, aye; Strader, aye. 7 ayes. 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Shonkwiler, seconded by Rothrock, to approve the Memorandum of Understanding between the Arcola School District and the Arcola Education Association regarding an extended day contract for the agriculture teaching position.
