City of Martinsville City Council met January 8

City of Martinsville City Council met Jan. 8.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Roll call was answered by the following council members and elected officials: Chris Davidson, Chris Perry, Melinda Lovell, Troy Propst and John Skinner with Preston Rukes absent. Also in attendance were Mayor Herman Davidson, Clerk Marlene Wilhoit, Treasurer Teresa Connelly and attorney Richard Bernardoni. Employees and citizens in attendance are attached to the back of the minutes.

*Motion by C Davidson 2nd by J Skinner to approve minutes of meeting from 12-11-19. Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (5)

*Motion by M Lovell 2nd by T Propst to approve the treasurer’s report as presented. Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (5)

*Motion by C Davidson 2nd by C Perry to approve December 2019 bills payable January 2020 in the amount of $59,379.95. Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (5)

The request that was received from the National Road Association of Illinois requesting each of the twenty-one communities contribute monies to help repay a loan was again mentioned. We have contacted them for more information but have not gotten a response back. At this time the City will table the request and try to find out more information.

ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION:

*Council discussed the upcoming retirement dates for 2 employees. One is planning to retire in September of 2020 and one planning on retiring in May 2021. Replacements will be discussed at later dates along with when to have replacements start..

*Council discussed the 2003 Chevy S10 that is either in need of considerable repair or just retiring it. This plus possible other new vehicles need to be discussed further for the next fiscal year budget.

*Council discussed possibly selling an extra shot gun to the Village of Westfield and attorney will prepare an ordinance to that effect for next meeting.

COMMENTS:

*Complimented the city workers for the clearing the last snowfall 

*The papers have finally been served on the Radakovic property at the west end of Cumberland Street. Now we wait for court dates.

PUBLIC COMMENTS:

Steve Veach addressed council with concerns about police response from both the city and county on an incident that took place recently concerning an elderly person. The council stated they would look into the situation and get back with him.

With no other comments:

**Motion by J Skinner 2nd by C Davidson to adjourn the meeting @ 7:50PM. All council members present voted for the motion. (5)
