Arcola School District #306 Board of Education met Nov. 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

A regular meeting of the Board of Education of Arcola Community Unit District #306 Arcola, Illinois was called to order in the Media Center at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 for the purpose of regular business.

President Strader called the meeting to order. The following members answered roll call: Stout, Shonkwiler, Thieman, Strader, Crane, Wesch, and Arrol.

Others present were: Tom Mulligan, Lisa Sigrist, Angie Gentry, Cathy Brimner, David Porter. President Strader recognized the visitors and asked for public comment. There was none. There were no pending FOIA requests.

Motion by Stout, seconded by Thieman, to approve the regular meeting minutes from October 9, 2019; and building committee meeting minutes from November 4. Roll call vote: Stout, aye; Shonkwiler, aye; Thieman, aye; Arrol, aye; Strader, aye; Crane, aye; Wesch, aye. 7 ayes. 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Crane, seconded by Shonkwiler, to approve the Treasurer’s Report as of October 30, 2019 as submitted. Roll call vote: Roll call vote: Stout, aye; Shonkwiler, aye; Thieman, aye; Arrol, aye; Strader, aye; Crane, aye; Wesch, aye. 7 ayes. 0 nays. Motion carried.

Motion by Wesch, seconded by Stout, to approve the payment of bills as submitted in the amount of $412,627.70. Roll call vote: Stout, aye; Shonkwiler, aye; Thieman, aye; Arrol, aye; Strader, aye; Crane, aye; Wesch, aye. 7 ayes. 0 nays. Motion carried.

Administrative Team Reports

~~Mrs. Gentry, Principal, Arcola Elementary – Mrs. Gentry highlighted the fact that the elementary school had over 90% parent attendance at parent teacher conferences. She also indicated that the student attendance in October was over 96%. She also shared some information about the elementary recess program and the fact that Ms. Conlin has led the initiative to get more structured activities for the students during recess. Last school year there were 24 discipline referrals at recess during the first quarter and this year there were only 4.

~~Mrs. Sigrist, Principal, Arcola Jr/Sr High – Mrs. Sigrist thanked Ms. Coombe and her speech class for all their hard work in putting together another successful Veterans Day program. She wanted to give out a big thank you to Jo’s Diner for donating the meal for the Veterans.

Announcements: Dr. Mulligan reminded the board members of their status and responsibility as mandated reported. He also stated that Dr. Arrol has invited everyone to his house after the December meeting for a holiday celebration. The Board meeting will be held at 6:00 pm.
