City of Martinsville City Council met September 25

City of Martinsville City Council met Sept. 25.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Roll call was answered by the following council members and elected officials: Chris Davidson, Chris Perry, Melinda Lovell, Troy Propst, John Skinner and Preston Rukes. Also in attendance were Mayor Herman Davidson, Clerk Marlene Wilhoit and attorney Richard Bernardoni. Employees and citizens in attendance are attached to the back of the minutes.

*Motion by J Skinner 2nd by M Lovell to approve minutes from 9-11-19 council meeting. Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion, (6)

*Motion by C Davidson 2nd by P Rukes to approve the date of October 31st for trick or treat in conjunction with the Chambers activities from 5:30 – 8:00 PM.

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion, (6)

A letter of resignation has been received from Blaine Washburn with the effective date of October 4, 2109. *Motion by T Propst 2nd by M Lovell to accept the resignation of Blaine Washburn effective October 4, 2019. Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion, (6)

At this time Mayor Davidson called an executive meeting to conduct job interviews for a position in the gas department. *@ 7:10PM C Davidson made a motion for a closed meeting to consider the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of a specific employee with 2nd by P Rukes.

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion, (6)

@ 8:07PM J Skinner made a motion to resume into regular meeting with 2nd by C Davidson. Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion, (6)

*Motion by C Davidson 2nd by J Skinner to hire Chris Snearley for a positon of general laborer in the gas department with a salary of $31,200.00 and start date yet to be determined.

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion, (6)

PUBLIC COMMENTS:

*Bill Cornwell addressed council concerning a traffic stop and ticket her received on 9-19-19 for a headlight out: he felt it wasn’t deserved

*Fall clean-up date was announced as October 8, 2019

*Chamber of Commerce is having a spaghetti dinner fund raiser for repairs at the Lincoln School on October 6, 2019 at the fire hall

*Discuss what to do about filling police position at next meeting

*Might consider having an e-waste disposal day in near future

*Mentioned the concern of semi’s on Washington Street; that is a concrete street and the weight shouldn’t hurt the road.

With no other public comments:

**Motion by C Davidson 2nd by C Perry to adjourn the meeting @ 8:45PM. All council members present voted for the motion. (6)
