City of Casey issued the following announcement on July 23.
We are exploring the possibility of hosting a Citizens Police Academy in the next couple of months
The Citizens Police Academy is being introduced to educate Casey residents about the structure, functions and activities of their police department.
The Academy consists of six (6) sessions, one evening a week from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
Classes are taught by members of The Casey Police Department, and other local criminal justice professionals
The program will be presented through classroom presentations, lectures, hands-on scenarios, field trips, and a ride along session.
PURPOSE:
Build a trust between the police department and our citizens.
Highlight the importance of citizen participation in public safety, so they assist in keeping our community safe.
Provide citizens with a basic understanding of the police profession, its policies, procedures and services.
Open lines of communication so we may receive input from citizens about their concerns regarding the community and the police department.

What is the purpose of the academy?
To open lines of communication between the department and the residents of Casey.
Is there a charge for the program?
No. Supplies or materials that are needed will be furnished by the Department.
What do I get upon completion of the academy?
Upon graduation, you will receive a group photo, and a Certificate of Completion. We would hope to eventually establish a Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.
How often is Citizens Police Academy offered?
Initially we will offer the Citizens Police Academy once a year, however depending on interest we may expand to twice a year in the future. We may also explore the possibilty of having a Youth Academy during the summer.u
How much time do I have to commit to the program?
There is no commitment after graduation, however we would like to form an Alumni Association for graduates of the program, so you can maintain a relationship with the department.
Do I have to be in good physical shape to attend?
There are no physical requirements for the course. You make the decision on your level of participation.
