City of Flora issued the following announcement on Sept. 12.
Flora City Clerk Rebekah S. Burgess announces that petition forms and other applicable election filing forms, for the office of Mayor and Commissioners for the City of Flora, will be available to interested, qualified, registered voters beginning Tuesday, September 18, 2018. The packet of forms and pertinent information may be picked up at Flora City Hall, 131 E. Second Street, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 4:30 P.M., with the exception of holiday closures.
Flora’s Consolidated Election to be held on April 2, 2019 will be for electing a Mayor and four Commissioners. Individuals elected to fill those positions will serve a 4-year term, beginning May 6, 2019 (first regular council meeting of May) through April 30, 2023. If petitions filed total more than four for the Mayor’s position and/or more than sixteen for the Commissioners’ positions, a Consolidated Primary Election will be held on February 26, 2019.
Prospective candidates may start circulating petitions on September 18, 2018.
The filing period for nonpartisan candidates is December 10-17, 2018. Any petitions and required paperwork received prior to December 10th will be returned. A notice will be circulated to the media as a reminder of the filing dates.
