Jasper County Community Unit School District 1 students suspended 79 times in a single school year

Jasper County Community Unit School District 1 reported 79 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 79 students during the year. That equates to 5.8 percent of the 1,364 students enrolled.

Of the 56 in-school suspensions, including 11 elementary or middle schoolers and 45 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 41 incidents. There were six incidents of drugs. For 40 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes nine incidents. There were eight incidents of drugs. For 18 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
