Lawrence County Community Unit School District 20 students suspended 121 times in a single school year

Lawrence County Community Unit School District 20 reported 121 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 121 students during the year. That equates to 10 percent of the 1,205 students enrolled.

Of the 96 in-school suspensions, including 16 elementary or middle schoolers and 80 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 95 incidents. There were one incidents of drugs. For 81 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 25 out-of-school suspensions, including 11 elementary or middle schoolers and 14 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 20 incidents. There were two incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For nine incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
