Tuscola Community Unit School District 301 students suspended 19 times in a single school year

Tuscola Community Unit School District 301 reported 19 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 19 students during the year. That equates to 1.9 percent of the 976 students enrolled.

Of the 11 in-school suspensions, all were given to boys, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes four incidents. There were three incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 11 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence that caused physical injury. The category includes five incidents. There were two incidents of violence without physical injury. For six incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
