HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital issued the following announcement on July 11.
There are still seats available! Beginning July 30 through August 2, HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital will host their second annual Vacation Body School for children in grades 4th, 5th or 6th. Class times will be from 10:00 a.m. until noon at the rehabilitation services department, 201 South Cedar, Shelbyville. The classes are free and pre-registration is encouraged but may take place on the first day of class. Children may attend one class or all week.
There will be fun lessons on the heart – including how it works, what happens when it doesn’t and how to prevent heart failure. Each day will begin with a short prayer and snacks will be provided. The curriculum will include lessons, physical activities and games. On the last day of the school, a box lunch will be provided to the students and awards will be presented.
The lessons from this vacation school will focus on the hospital’s core values which are respect, care, competence and joy.
“Last year was our pilot program for Vacation Body School. Each day we saw more children as word spread as to what a fun program this is. We hope to see that again this year. We also hope all the kids who can join us will learn healthy habits and some fun and positive life lessons,” said Tonya Bowrey, rehabilitation services manager for HSHS Good Shepherd.
