HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on June 21.
The HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital recently honored Auxilians at the Auxiliary Appreciation Event held in early-May during Hospital Week at the hospital.
At the event, service awards were presented to the Auxilians for their volunteer hours given to the hospital. The following 28 Auxilians received awards for their cumulative hours of service to the hospital:

The new Auxiliary Executive Committee officers were also installed during the meeting. The members installed as the Executive Committee for the 2018-2020 term are Donna Zerrusen, President; Mary Jane Koester, Vice President; Kathern Upchurch, Secretary/Treasurer; Rita Thoele, Membership Chair; Marilyn More, Special Events Chair; Rosemary Vonderheide, Guest Services/Gift Shop Chair; and Marilyn Schaefer, Past President.
At this event, the HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital Auxiliary announced the recipients of the new scholarship program this launched this year for Effingham County high school seniors pursuing a degree or certification in a health care field. Each recipient receives a $500 scholarship to be used toward their education. The Auxiliary Scholarship Committee chose three individuals based on their applications, essays, and letters of recommendation. The 2018 recipients are:
- Danielle Gullett (Beecher City High School): Gullett plans to attend Lake Land College in Mattoon, to ultimately pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Elizabeth Feldhake (Dieterich High School): Feldhake will be attending Kaskaskia Community College in Centralia to obtain certification in x-ray technology/sonography.
- Jamie Lawrence (Beecher City High School): Lawrence plans to attend Lake Land College in Mattoon, seeking a degree to become a physical therapist assistant.
