HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on May 9.
On Wednesday, May 9, HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital held a blessing and unveiling of the first panel of the “Canticle of the Sun”, inspired by the well-known prayer written by St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis. This work of art is expressed through mosaics and was created by Dr. Ruben Boyajian, a general surgeon and medical director of the Women’s Wellness Center at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. As many in the area are aware, Dr. Boyajian is a gifted artist and has contributed artwork to the Effingham Performance Center, the Effingham County Courthouse Museum, and to other organizations through his beautiful gingerbread displays. His newest creation is located in St. Anthony’s heritage hallway that connects the hospital’s Administrative wing to the Prairie Heart Institute, overlooking the Healing Garden. Dr. Boyajian completed this project in his home studio and has donated his time and materials for the project.
“Dr. Boyajian is a talented surgeon and is also well known as a talented artist in this community. St. Anthony’s is now blessed to have one of his most exquisite pieces of art adorned in our hospital,” stated Theresa Rutherford, President and CEO of HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. “The “Canticle of the Sun” is a wonderful representation of the vision of those who came before us and is a reminder of how we incorporate the same mission, vision, and values, into our modern day practice, work and ministry.”
