Tuscola Community Unified School District No. 301 Board hires high school secretary

Tuscola Community Unified School District No. 301 Board of Education met Monday, Nov. 28.

The Tuscola Board of Education consists of seven board members elected to serve, without compensation, for overlapping terms of four years each. The board elects a president, vice-president and secretary to serve for two-year terms.

Here are the minutes as provided by the Tuscola CUSD No. 301:

MINUTES OF THE MEETING Of November 28, 2016

The Board of Education of Tuscola community Unit School District No. 301 of Douglas and Champaign Counties, Illinois convened in regular session in the Board Office at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, November 28, 2016.

The meeting was called to order by the president. The secretary called the roll, and those present were as follows: Ring, Spillman, Mooney, Quinn, Kleiss, Romine and Boyer. Absent: none.

A motion was made by Quinn and seconded by Mooney that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved as corrected. Motion carried unanimously.

A motion was made by Mooney and seconded by Spillman that the monthly bills be paid as presented. Motion carried unanimously. (Attachment 9A)

A motion was made by Boyer and seconded by Romine that the monthly reports be accepted and placed on file. Motion carried unanimously. (Attachment 9B)

A motion was made by Boyer and seconded by Mooney to accept the following donations: Ford of Tuscola - $100 Marilyn Davidson Tech Fund, Cargill - $1,000 FFA, and Tuscola Alumni Association - $200 FFA.

A motion was made by Quinn and seconded by Boyer to approve the tentative tax levy for 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried unanimously.

A motion was made by Romine and seconded by Kleiss to approve the enterprise zone tax abatement resolution. Upon roll call, the following members voted aye: Ring, Mooney, Quinn, Kleiss, Romine, and Boyer. Nays: Spillman.

A motion as made by Mooney and seconded by Kleiss to approve the first reading of the November 2016 policy updates. Motion carried unanimously.

Superintendent Smith updated the Board on district finances, Working Cash Bonds, mowing/snow removal equipment replacement schedule, schedule of cuts if needed, staff flu shots, Golden Apple Host site, night lock, lockdown door barricade and a test run for electronic board packets in December.

Mr. Smith, Mr. Ring, Mrs. Boyer and Mr. Quinn all reported on their experiences at the recent School Board Convention.

Mr. Allen reported on the activities at the high school highlighting the Veterans’ Day assembly which included EP students. He also noted the HS Christmas concert would be at 4 p.m. December 11 at the high school.

Mrs. Munson reported on EP activities also highlighting the Veterans’ Day assembly, sporting events and the upcoming East Prairie Christmas Concert at 2 p.m. on December 11 at the high school.

Mr. Wallace reported on NW Veterans’ Day activities and shared that NW would have their Christmas Concert on December 8 at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Test scores were discussed noting improvement is needed. It was noted we are starting to have more money available to do some of these improvements.

A motion was made by Boyer and seconded by Quinn to go in to closed session at 9:33 p.m. for the purpose of discussion of personnel. Motion carried unanimously.

A motion was made by Boyer and seconded by Kleiss to come out of closed session at 10:02 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.

A motion was made by Romine and seconded by Ring to employ Mrs. Mindy Fowler as HS secretary, Mrs. Angie Gough as EP classroom aide, and Mr. Travis Surma as high school assistant track coach. Motion carried unanimously.

A motion was made by Romine and seconded by Boyer to approve non-certified bonus pay. Upon roll call, the following members voted aye: Ring, Spillman, Mooney, Kleiss, Romine, and Boyer. Abstain: Quinn.

A motion was made by Boyer and seconded by Quinn to adjourn at 10:03 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
