Tuscola Community Unified School District No. 301 Board of Education met Monday, Sept. 26.
The Tuscola Board of Education consists of seven board members elected to serve, without compensation, for overlapping terms of four years each. The board elects a president, vice-president and secretary to serve for two-year terms.

MINUTES OF THE MEETING Of September 26, 2016
The Board of Education of Tuscola community Unit School District No. 301 of Douglas and Champaign Counties, Illinois convened in regular session in the Board Office at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, September 26, 2016.
The meeting was called to order by the president. The secretary called the roll, and those present were as follows: Ring, Spillman, Mooney, Quinn, Kleiss, Romine and Boyer. Absent: none.
A motion was made by Quinn and seconded by Kleiss that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved as read. Motion carried unanimously.
A motion was made by Boyer and seconded by Mooney that the monthly bills be paid. Motion carried unanimously. (Attachment 5A)
A motion was made by Quinn and seconded by Kleiss that the monthly reports be accepted and placed on file. Motion carried unanimously. (Attachment 5B)
A motion was made by Kleiss and seconded by Romine to accept the following donations: anonymous-$250 for Help a Child, Kiwanis - $250 for Help a Child and Ford of Tuscola – football truck/Tailgating tent/Drive 4UR School. It was also noted Tuscola Football donated $600 to the Decatur Area Technical Academy in honor of the two Moweaqua students who recently lost their lives. Mr. Smith also noted the district received $2,200 from staff members for Dress Code Charities. The funds will be donated to local charities. Motion carried unanimously.
The president asked for visitors who wished to address the Board. There were none.
Auditor Russ Leigh presented the 2016 audit with many favorable comments.
A motion as made by Romine and seconded by Kleiss to approve the Annual Financial Report for 2016. Motion carried unanimously.
A motion was made by Mooney and seconded by Spillman to approve the 2016-2017 budget. Motion carried unanimously
Approval of the August 2016 policy updates was tabled until October.
A motion was made by Boyer and seconded by Kleiss to approve the request for a 2 p.m. dismissal on Friday, October 7 for the Homecoming Parade. Motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Quinn and Mr. Ring gave their School Board Goals presentation.
Mr. Smith reported on district finances including the final costs of retirements over the last several years, current construction, substitutes, Tuscola Tech meeting, Erate consultant noting his contract as money well spent as the district would be receiving more funds for their needs. He also reminded Board members of the upcoming election and Board Convention. Building principals gave their reports each noting the activities of students and teachers in their respective buildings.
Mrs. Morgan and Miss Maday, 5th grade math teachers, gave a very informative report on the current 5th grade math requirements.
A motion was made by Boyer and seconded by Kleiss to go in to closed session at 9:11 p.m. for the purpose of discussion of personnel/. Motion carried unanimously.
A motion was made by Spillman and seconded by Mooney to come out of closed session at 9:57 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
A motion as made by Romine and seconded by Boyer to approved family medical leave for Mrs. Kim Miller. Motion carried unanimously.
A motion was made by Romine and seconded by Mooney to employ Mrs. Christy Curry as EP Special Education teacher and to approve Miss Christina Burns finishing her student teaching at East Prairie. Motion carried unanimously.
A motion was made by Romine and seconded by Kleiss to accept the resignation of Mr. Ted Minger as assistant JV baseball coach, Mrs. Deanna Woodard as one day a week secretary, and Mrs. Jody Patton as EP custodian. Motion carried unanimously.
A motion was made by Spillman and seconded by Quinn to adjourn at 9:59 p.m. Motion carried unanimously
