EIU homecoming parade entries due by Oct. 7

Eiu homecoming

“There’s No Place Like EIU!!” serves as Eastern Illinois University’s Homecoming 2016 theme slated for the week of Oct. 17-22, and officials urge potential parade participants to submit their applications in time for Friday’s deadline.

Oct. 7 is the last day that community groups can enter by remitting their application forms, although EIU-affliliated groups will have until Tuesday, Oct. 11 to send in their entries. To register and/or for more information, contact the EIU Student Life Activity Center at 217-581-5522 or online at http://www.eiu.edu/homecoming/parade.php.

The Homecoming Parade will commence at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7th Street and continue along 6th Street, Polk Avenue and Division Street in Charleston. As suggested by the slogan, this year’s parade motif will highlight the classic movie, “The Wizard of Oz.” Marching bands, floats, decorated vehicles and other decked-out entries are all eligible to take part.

EIU encourages student organizations, Charleston-area groups and regional civic leaders to consider crafting creative displays and striding along the parade route in the traditional annual event led by a grand marshal and featuring eminent alumni.

Official EIU Homecoming 2016 apparel (Homecoming spirit T-shirts for $5 and sweatshirts for $15; larger sizes slightly higher) are available now through EIU Homecoming Week while supplies last.

Students and residents can stop in at the activity center located in Room 2070 of the MLK Jr. University Union or alternatively, phone 217-581-5522 for ordering information.
