Shelbyville Community Unit School District No. 4 board met Thursday, April 21.

REGULAR BOARD MEETING April 21st, 2016 AT 7:00 P.M. SHELBYVILLE COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 4

The Board of Education of Shelbyville Community Unit School District No. 4 met in a Regular Board meeting at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, April 21st, 2016 in the Shelbyville High School Cafeteria. Members present: Mike Durbin, Jake Hankins, Gary Hayden, Mark Snider, Scott West, Ellen Trainor and Rob Bosgraaf.

• SHS students participate in “No Job Left Behind” Business Luncheon

• Pi Day - Joel Bleskey was able to recite 275 digits, Tyler Pasley 123 digits, Marcus Skinner 107 digits, and Braxton Vice 27 digits

• FFA-Morgan Powers, Curt Campbell, Taylor Powers, Jade Blesky, and Jake Pfeiffer all received their Illinois State FFA Degree Curt Campbell and Sarah Throneburg advanced to State Proficiency Awards Chase Trainor and Jade Blesky advanced to District Public Speaking CDE Poultry Judging Team finished 1" place overall and advanced to State

• Moulton Middle School recently won the Shelby County Junior High Track Championship on 4/7/16 & the 8" grade boys won the Rochester Invite Championship on 4/9/16.

Recent HS Track results: Indoor State Track Meet Ryan Skowronski–10"in 400 Meter Dash Preston Henze–10" in 800 Meter Run Marcus Skinner - 7th in 1600 Meter Run Jordan Sieger –10" in 3200 Meter Run Boys 4X400–5"Place Boys 4X800–2"Place Dillon Birch–5"Shot Put Thank You to all who are assisting in the renovations on the high school track.

8"-Julia Nees Plastic top Collection- The recycled bench is scheduled for pick up on April 12". Once again, thank you everyone for the tremendous amount of support to make this project a reality. Honor Council- Congratulations to the 2015-16 Moulton Student Council for being recognized as an Illinois Association of Junior High Student Council (IAJHSC) Honor Council. The hard work and dedication of the students, Mrs. Conder, and Ms. McDonald continues to have a positive impact on our school and community. We will be adding this recognition to our IAJHSC plaque outside of the office as soon as we receive the label. D.A.R.E. graduation- The D.A.R.E. graduation will be April 20" at 1 p.m. in the gym. We will be celebrating our 5" graders and their commitment to living a health and drug free life. Spring Concert-The Moulton band and chorus concert will be on April 21” at 7 p.m. The concert will be held in the Moulton gym. "No Homework Night"- PTO and Joe's Pizza are teaming up to host a "No Homework Night" on April 26". The PTO will be working the event so please stop by. Joe's Pizza will be donating part of the money made to the PTO. Thank you to the Kiwanis for presentation to students who have improved their grades from 2" to 3" quarter.

Character Pizza Lunch-The following students joined Mrs. Daniels and me for a character pizza lunch in the month of March: Owen Beyers, Caden Perry, Miranda Bruns, Audrey Durbin, Kara Endsley, Berkley Pullen, Katie Clabough, Bodee Fathauer, Jack McClain,

Austin Gordon, Greta Duke, and Zayne Gatton. Congratulations to the students and their parents for modeling grit on a daily basis. Color Run-PTO sponsored the first annual Color Run at Forest Park on April 16th. 357 people signed up to participate, with 150 of them being children. Some students participated as a classroom team. Thanks to the local businesses (Shelby Township, Shelby Memorial Hospital, First Federal Bank, Shelby County State Bank, Druby's, McDonald's, Jesse Knearem, Army Corps of Engineers, All Kindz of Soundz, and Paddis Balloons) for their donations. Also thanks to the Color Run organizers (Brooke Hammond, Jenny Schrock, Megan Donnell and Jill Wells). This event raised over $7,000 for Our PTO.

Sarah Bush Lincoln Dental Clinic-80 Preschool-3" grade students received dental exams and cleanings on March 31* & April 1". The dental bus will come on April 28" to provide services to those students needing follow-up care. All students are eligible to receive a dental exam at no cost. Students must be on Medicaid, have an All Kids card, or be enrolled in the Free/Reduced Lunch program to qualify for dental cleanings and follow-up services. They are an amazing group of women who make getting your dental check-up fun. We really appreciate the great service they provide. Preschool Screening and Kindergarten Pre-Registration-Our preschool teachers and speech teachers along with the help of EIASE screened 80 preschool students and 53 kindergarten students the week of April 4". Parents got the opportunity to see how their children were developing in the areas of speech, language, academic concepts and motor skills. Children also participated in vision and hearing screenings. Thanks to Holy Cross Lutheran Church for allowing us to use their facilities.

Budget Review- Budget projections as of the end of March show a positive balance of $26,823in the operating funds (Education, Operations and Maintenance, Transportation, Working Cash and Tort). The projection is based on receiving all of the remaining state aid and three of the four categorical payments. The education fund continues to be in deficit spending. Lake Trails- A meeting was held at Lake Trails (previously Deer Trail golf course) on March 30.The meeting was hosted by John Shimkus and included representatives from city and county government, the Corp of Engineers and the developer. The proposed housing and lake development has the potential to increase property tax revenue for the district as much as $600,000.

Approved by consent agenda were the Open and Closed Minutes of the March 17th, 2016 and the March 2015 Expenditure, Payroll, Activity, Revolving Fund and Treasurer's report.
