Propane power and a public presentation cap Shelbyville CUSD meeting.
Shelbyville High School’s library set the scene for the Community Unit School District 4’s meeting at 7 p.m. March 17, when administrators and guests enjoyed an appearance by students enrolled in Mandy Totten’s Ag Business class.
Technology is poised to extend to the transportation sector as well as the school district in general, as the board of education not only debated the terms of leasing technology in new business, but also contemplated the purchase of a propane-powered school bus.
With emissions standards growing more rigorous in recent years, some school bus markets have invested in propane-fueled fleets, including some jurisdictions in Chicago as well as other major American cities. Propane is traditionally regarded as backyard barbecue fuel, but it is proving to be an efficient alternative to gasoline and diesel fuel.
Routine agenda items included approval of previous meeting minutes, endorsement of financial reports from March and payroll, revolving fund activity and a treasurer’s report from February.
Action items comprised an executive session and any actions necessary consequent to the closed session prior to adjournment.
Shelbyville High School and the CUSD 4 are located at 720 West Main St. Instructor Totten, whose students’ presentation was first on the agenda, teaches basic horticulture, “Ag” business and mechanics, as well as introductory agriculture.
