Charleston sets date for spring cleanup.
In what has become an annual service, Charleston will sponsor its 2016 spring cleanup event from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, for citizens wishing to discard unwanted items -- at two different locations.
Providing dumpsters for denizens to dispose of large, bulky, old or otherwise defunct materials, the City of Charleston will station bins at both the City Street Garage, located at 815 Adkins Drive, and — for leaf and limb dropoff — West Madison Avenue, past the fairgrounds.
The public is advised that certain categories of objects cannot be accepted: building materials, construction debris or car parts exceeding one cubic yard in volume, including drywall, shingles, dirt, brick, concrete, asphalt, rock, etc.; tires; liquids or burnt materials of any kind; fluorescent light tubes and landscape waste other than leaves and limbs.
Charleston’s government also reminds residents that obsolete electronics devices can be turned in to COM2 Recycling Solutions at 777 Windsor Drive. Additionally, Gross Appliances at 2310 W. State St. will accept appliances both on the day of the community cleanup and all year long.
COM2 Recycling Solutions’ facilities are situated in the North West Business Park at the corner of Route 316 and Decker Springs Road, Charleston. Business hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m Monday through Friday.
